How Therapy Works
The first meeting with Dr. Carr is scheduled for 60 minutes, and is an opportunity to share presenting issues or problems and for you and her to assess whether therapy with Dr. Carr may be helpful. She provides clinical impressions and suggestions for treatment in the first meeting. If you and/or she determine that hers is not an appropriate practice to help you, she will offer referrals to other qualified practitioners and settings.
After the initial meeting, and upon agreement to begin working together in treatment, subsequent sessions are scheduled for 50 minutes. On average, sessions are scheduled weekly as a means of ensuring continuity and healing in treatment.
Dr. Carr’s style is collaborative. She inquires about how treatment is working throughout the therapeutic process and she shares her clinical impressions when helpful. Dr. Carr encourages discussions of treatment planning during sessions as a means of providing psycho-education to patients about diagnosis and treatment issues, as well maintaining a supportive collaboration in the healing process.
Psychotherapy with Dr. Carr is confidential and she maintains a sole private practice. By law, confidentiality is limited in that Dr. Carr is required to break confidentiality in the event that: Dr. Carr is concerned that you are a danger to yourself or to someone else, or if you are in imminent danger by someone else. These instances are very rare and Dr. Carr reviews confidentiality and related limits in the first meeting.
